10.) A house that helps you live longer? ‘Lifespan extending villa’ on market for $2.495 million
The architectural team of Arakawa and Gins believed they could design a house that would allow its residents to extend their lifespan. They gave their concept the unique name of bioscleave. Now, the Bioscleave House, or “Lifespan Extending Villa,” is on the market for $2.495 million. The house is the first example of its kind in the United States, according to the real estate website, and is located in East Hampton, Long Island, N.Y. “Directions for Use” are included.
9) This California ghost town was purchased for $1.4 million. Buyers plan to bring it back to life
The abandoned mining town of Cerro Gordo that was put on the market in June was purchased for $1.4 million. The property was originally listed at $925,000. Located outside of Lone Pine, California, the 314-acre piece of land is about four hours from Los Angeles and Las Vegas. The town was founded in 1865 where silver mining began and has 22 remaining structures, according to cerrogordomines.com.

A great collectable for Trekkies can be bought for $5.7 million. A futuristic-looking house in Malibu, California, hit the market, and it happened to be one featured in a Season 3 episode of “Star Trek: The Next Generation” that aired in 1989.
7) Want to own home of ‘The Godfather’ horse-head scene? That’ll be $135 million
Publishing magnate William Randolph Hearst once owned a 1920s Mediterranean Revival-style mansion in Beverly Hills that is now for sale at a greatly reduced price of $135 million. Two years ago, the Beverly House in Beverly Hills, California, was listed for $195 million. The mansion, which sits on 3.5 acres at the end of an 800-foot-long driveway with 19 bedrooms and 29 baths, is known for its memorable movie scenes in “The Godfather,” where the uncooperative movie producer Jack Woltz woke up to a horse head in his bed, and the glamorous estate where Whitney Houston’s character lived in “The Bodyguard.”

A house sitting atop Russian Hill in San Francisco, with views of downtown, Coit Tower, the Bay Bridge, East Bay and Alcatraz, has been listed at $45 million. If the property sells for $45 million, it will be the most expensive home ever sold in San Francisco, according to a representative of listing agent Val Steele of Pacific Union International.
5) Here’s what $188 million gets you in Los Angeles real estate market
This is the second most expensive home for sale in America, the larger-than-life Bel-Air mansion originally listed at $250 million. The property was built on spec by luxury developer Bruce Makowsky. The 38,000-square-foot home has two master suites, 10 VIP guest suites, 21 bathrooms, three kitchens, and five bars.
4) Robert Redford uncorks his wine country home on the market for $7.5 million - take a look
Robert Redford has listed his scenic home in the Napa wine country town of St. Helena for $7.5 million.The Oscar-winning actor and director bought the estate in 2004, the Los Angeles Times reported. The main house, which boasts mountain and forest views from atop a knoll, features eight rooms, three bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms and more than 5,200 square feet of living space. It sits on 10 acres of gated land with gardens, forest area and hiking trails.

A home on the Sacramento River that went to auction had a recent asking price of $2.3 million. That’s a rarefied price range in Sacramento real estate. Only a handful of homes here sell for more than $2 million. Those that do often sit along the bluffs of the American River or, as in this case, on Garden Highway beside the Sacramento River. As of December 20, 2018, the home was off the market.
2) Fab 40s house featured in ‘Lady Bird’ on the market for $3.9 million
An upscale home in Sacramento’s Fab 40s neighborhood, made popular by its appearance in the opening shot of the film “Lady Bird,” hit the market with a listing price of $3.895 million. The expansive brick house, about 6,500 square feet in size, sits on a more than half-acre property at 45th Street and Folsom Boulevard in East Sacramento. It has six bedrooms, six and a half bathrooms, a pool house, library, wine cellar and more.
1) Eddie Murphy’s former Granite Bay mansion sells for $5 million in 5-minute auction
A massive Granite Bay estate, once owned by comedian and actor Eddie Murphy, was sold on-site at auction for $5 million. It had once been listed on the market at $12 million and then $10 million. DeCaro Auctions International took in the winning bid for the 2.5-acre property — including a 7-bed, 11-bath, 12,627-square-foot main house and a 5,200-square-foot guest house — in an absolute auction, meaning there was no minimum reserve. The listing agent, realtor Nick Sadek of Sotheby’s International Realty, said the transaction totaled $5.5 million, with a 10 percent “buyer’s premium” of $500,000 going to the auction house, and the home valued at the remaining $5 million. Sadek said there were 16 total bidders at the lightning-quick auction. The winning bid came from a Bay Area investor, he said.
