Wilderness travel discouraged; King fire concern closes McKinney Rubicon Trail

Because of the uncertain path of the King fire, the U.S. Forest Service’s Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit has closed the McKinney Rubicon Trail and is advising against travel into the Desolation and Granite Chief wildernesses.

The Eldorado National Forest has issued a forest closure for its Desolation Wilderness trails and trailheads.

In particular, hikers and equestrians should consider canceling plans for overnight travel into the Desolation and Granite Chief wildernesses, officials said.

More information is available by contacting the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit’s forest supervisor’s office at (530) 543-2694 or at http://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/4108/.
