Sacramento Republic FC supporters have committed to buying at least 10,000 season tickets if the club is promoted to Major League Soccer this December, the team reports.

Most of the 10,000 fans are current Republic FC season-ticket holders, the club said in a news release. Republic FC set USL attendance records in each of its first two seasons and finished second in the league this year with 11,569 attendees per game.

“We’re proud of and thankful to our fans for this incredible outpouring of support,” said Republic FC Chairman and CEO Kevin Nagle said in a statement. “They represent the heart and soul of our club, our community and our pursuit for MLS. In reaching the 10,000 season ticket milestone, Republic FC fans are demonstrating once again that Sacramento is a tremendous soccer market and poised to compete at the highest levels of MLS.”

Sacramento is one of 11 cities vying to become home to an MLS expansion franchise. The league is preparing to add four new teams, including two in December. City leaders in Charlotte, N.C., said Tuesday they would no longer compete for a club.

Republic FC announced plans in July to build a 19,621-seat downtown MLS stadium, and has since solicited architectural design suggestions from fans due Friday. The club signed a five-year jersey sponsorship contract with UC Davis Health earlier this month.

Should an MLS award be announced, Tier 1 priority seating and placement in a new MLS stadium would first be granted to existing USL season ticket holders, followed by USL partial season ticket holders in a second tier, MLS deposit holders in a third tier, and lastly new inquiries should inventory allow.

The club plans to cap the number of season tickets in the new stadium to allow for stadium access to groups, such as local youth soccer clubs, and single-match sales. The downtown stadium is estimated to hold approximately 20,000 seats and tickets will start at $20 per match.
