Sacramento City Councilman Allen Warren released a statement Thursday addressing, for the first time, a sexual harassment claim made against him by a former staff aide.

“In response to Monday’s article in The Sacramento Bee, I want to state clearly that the allegations made by Ms. Chacon are false. Since this matter is under investigation, it is inappropriate for me to comment further at this time.”

Delia Chacon filed a claim with the city of Sacramento last week alleging that Warren threatened to fire her if she ended their sexual relationship. The claim also charged that Warren requested she and other staffers work for Warren’s private development firm, New Faze, during normal city business hours.

Chacon was fired last month, but the circumstances of her dismissal remain unclear.

The City Attorney’s Office is investigating the claim and has engaged an outside employment law firm to assist in the inquiry.
