Woodland police are warning residents to beware of people selling fake 18 karat gold jewelry.

Police were alerted by a local business, which reported people attempting to sell jewelry for cash or to trade the items for gasoline.

The sellers reportedly tell prospective buyers that they have come from Canada, according to a Police Department Facebook post. They have been seen in brand-new SUVs with Colorado, Florida or California license plates, and have been well-dressed, in expensive clothes.

Most of the transactions have occurred at gas stations, the news release said.

Woodland police released photos of some of the purported 18K jewelry items, all of which were fake.

Anyone who sees people trying to sell such items in the city is encouraged to call the Police Department’s non-emergency line, 530-661-7800.
