An Elk Grove man was arrested Monday after allegedly drunkenly barging into his girlfriend’s house, beating her and attempting to kidnap her.

Peter Nguyen, 21, began banging on the victim’s front door about 11:30 a.m., according to Elk Grove police reports. When it opened, Nguyen allegedly pushed the victim back inside and proceeded to repeatedly slap, push and choke her, then held her down and kept her from leaving her home.

When the woman tried to call 911, Nguyen allegedly snatched the phone out of her hands before chasing her out of the house and attempting to drag her into his car, police said. He fled in his vehicle but was later arrested at another location.

The victim and Nguyen had been actively dating, said Christopher Trim, Elk Grove Police Department spokesman. She sustained visible injuries but was not hospitalized, and received an emergency protective order against Nguyen.

Nguyen was arrested on suspicion of felony attempted kidnapping, false imprisonment, assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury, domestic violence and threats to commit crimes resulting in death or great bodily injury, as well as misdemeanor charges of removing/destroying wireless communications to prevent summoning assistance and drunk in public.

Given that he was found outside his car, Trim said, he could not be charged with any form of drunken driving. He remains in Sacramento County Main Jail on $125,000 bail before his 1:30 p.m. arraignment hearing on Wednesday.
