Lisandro “Chando” Madrigal plans to open a new Chando’s Tacos restaurant early next year in Citrus Heights.

Documents filed with the city lay out plans to open in about 3,500 square feet of space in the Sylvan Corners shopping center at 7084 Auburn Blvd., a site recently vacated by Chase bank.

Chando oversees four Chando’s Tacos eateries in the region, and he opened Chando’s Cantina in midtown Sacramento in January this year.

The Chando’s brand was started seven years ago when Madrigal started a modest taco stand on Arden Way, which quickly attracted the attention of local foodies. From there, he set up shop on Sacramento’s Power Inn Road, then in Roseville and West Sacramento.

Chando’s Cantina at 805 15th St. is comparatively upscale, with table service, a full bar and other on-site amenities. Officially known as Chando’s Cantina y Gastronomia Callejera, the restaurant showcases street food from regions throughout Mexico.
