American River Brewing of Rancho Cordova has closed its doors, according to the brewery’s outgoing phone message Tuesday.

“At this time, operations of the brewery and tasting room have ceased,” the message said. “We wish to thank our customers, our fans, our loyal guests, for the years of service and support. … We hope that we will one day be operational again, and we will see you once again.”

Founded in 2012 by veteran brewer David Mathis, American River was perhaps best known for its award-winning “Coloma Brown” ale.

Calls to the brewery were not immediately returned.

It is the second prominent local brewery to announce a closure in the past few days. On Monday, Sacramento’s Rubicon said it would shut down by the end of the month after nearly 30 years in business.
